06/27/25 Life-Giving Water is Flowing in South Sudan

***As we begin this very exciting email, we ask for prayer for Pastor Ntare Rogers and another Ugandan pastor who were involved in a motorcycle crash yesterday.  Bruce was on the phone with Ntare just an hour before the crash.  [We were also able to talk to him in the hospital.  We even were able to get him to laugh when we reminded him that one year ago when we saw him, he was recovering from a leg injury from a motorcycle crash!]  Yesterday, he had one motorcycle land on his leg and the engine of another motorcycle land on his stomach causing pretty severe burns.  The other pastor was initially unconscious with more severe injuries.  Both were released from the hospital after being treated, but both need prayer as they recover.  Ntare is our African IT Director.  He is traveling all over Africa providing GBTF phones to trainers and church planters.  He has developed an amazing app for GBTF and is training everyone in the use of it for data collection, communication, and submission of the pictures and videos we all love.  Ntare is a vital part of the GBTF team, and we pray he will be returned to full health very quickly.  He and his wife have just welcomed a new baby.***

We often describe the work God is doing through Global Baptist Training Foundation as a high speed bus!  God is driving, and we are holding on for dear life!  In actuality, God put this dream on Bruce’s heart in about 2009.  In 2011, GBTF was incorporated.  In 2012, we became a registered 501(c)3, and the first classes were held in Romania, Congo, Rwanda, and Myanmar.  From there, we have grown to operate in 30 nations, with 112 national trainers, hundreds of church plants, tens of thousands coming to faith in Jesus Christ.  It is God’s work.  We’re just doing our very best to administrate and lead!

One of the exciting updates for today comes from South Sudan.  Samuel Mambo is a GBTF trainer, church planter, and valued co-worker.  We remember when Samuel came to begin his training in Uganda.  Now, God is using him in amazing ways.  Here are just a few highlights:

-Many church plants have been started among the people of South Sudan.  Samuel recently traveled into the land of the Toposa people and preached in 6 villages over a period of 7 days. During this seven days, 61 people put their faith in Jesus Christ.  They, along with many others from Samuel’s previous visit, now await baptism.  These people have fled the war-torn Sudan to become refugees in South Sudan.  They live in extreme poverty.  One of our GBTF supporting churches has previously sent funding so that Samuel could purchase pallets of clothing.   Many have only what is on their backs.  They also lack water.   This is the water that the Toposa people use to drink, for their animals to drink, and to bathe in.

The water is so scarce that there is long list of people waiting to be baptized when the rainy season comes.  Samuel will travel back to this area soon to baptize those waiting.  They just need rain to provide enough water for baptizing.   Among those that have come to Christ, four new churches have been established and are pastored by GBTF-trained pastors.  It is vital, even in the poorest areas, that the pastors have good, solid, Biblical theological training.  GBTF provides this theological training free of charge to make it accessible to all!

A GBTF donor has built the first well in South Sudan.  It is located on the property of the building built with our GBTF church-building partner.  Please see the video below of the fresh, clean, life-giving water flowing from this well.  This one well is now serving 7 villages with about 25,000 people.  The people walk long distances to fill their yellow water jugs.  We need to put two more wells on this property in order for the water to be adequate for this number of people.  Of course, people who come to the church for water hear about the Living Water that won’t leave them thirsty (John 4:13-14).

Just today, we received a call from a faithful GBTF donor who is donating funds to buy tents and chairs for three of the four new South Sudanese churches.  One of the churches had a tent and chairs.  We see God supplying needs even before we can share them!  We will get pictures of these churches baptizing and meeting in their new tents soon!  Pray for what God is doing in South Sudan!

We have classes going on across Africa during any given week.  More trained pastors means stronger churches, more new churches, and the continued multiplication of the gospel throughout the world!
