12/28/25 South Sudan

If you watch the news at all, you’ve heard about the war  in Sudan.  It is brutal and merciless.  Since 2023, over 1.2 million people have immigrated from war-torn Sudan into South Sudan.  Most of these people arrive in South Sudan with only the clothes on their backs.

We are thrilled to report that Global Baptist Training Foundation is seeing an amazing work of God in South Sudan.  Pastor Samuel Mambo is the National Coordinator for GBTF in South Sudan.  Samuel is a great GBTF trainer and church planter. He and his wife have a deep burden for Sudan and South Sudan and have given their lives to train nationals to train nationals!  He writes this:

“As I continue to thank GBTF, we are seeing the power of impacting the Locals to reach their own people. This is one of the new churches in Kapoeta.  They didn’t put up the tent today because the tent cannot accommodate them all. God is doing great work through the local people. I cannot do as much in Kapoeta as the locals who are from there. This is Najie Baptist Church. Jesus is being preached, and many are now believing in the gospel.  I am sure that South Sudan and Sudan will change in years to come!”

Here’s what GBTF has done and continues to do in South Sudan through generous GBTF donor churches and individuals:

*23 churches planted

*Thousands saved and baptized and now being disciples in these churches

*Tents purchased for church plants to meet in (many churches have outgrown the tents as you will notice in pictures here)

*One building built with as many as three more coming soon

*Funds sent to purchase Bibles (MANY more needed)

*One well built on church property serving thousands in an area where water is scarce –  with three more needed

*Pallets of clothing purchased and distributed through local churches

*Hundreds pastors and church leaders trained through GBTF theological training classes

*GBTF trainers and church planters supplies with equipment and phones

*GBTF church planters supported for one year (many of these though our GBTF church planting partner, ADVANCE)

While all of this is amazing, Samuel writes:

“We urgently need support to translate the GBTF training courses into local languages.   Due to economic hardship many pastors struggle to travel to and from training centers due to high transport costs and the insecurity of travel.  We are praying for funds for small teams to travel to more villages to train and meet the needs of the classes.  This often includes feeding the pastors during the classes because of the extreme poverty.  Our newly planted churches lack Bibles! This is an urgent need.”

Samuel also shares needs for clothing, supplies, teacher salaries, and more.   So, we have accomplished much but have so much more to see accomplished!

God is doing amazing things along the refugees of South Sudan through trained nationals!  This same model is being duplicated all over the world, particularly in Africa!

Your giving makes it possible for the gospel to advance by multiplication!    Training nationals to train nationals is a Biblical concept (II Timothy 2:2) that truly WORKS!  See Bruce’s new book, The Voices of Nationals, where you can read more about Pastor Samuel Mambo and many others!!   Do you want to invest where the spiritual return on investment is beyond what you can imagine?  Go or www.globaltrain.org to be part of what God is doing in South Sudan, Africa, and the world!
